Class Descriptions
Burlesque Jazz - Intro to Burlesque
Designed for all levels of dancers, these four classes will take you through sultry burlesque dance combos that will create a short choreography at the end of the session. All classes include jazz style warm-up, cool-down and thorough breakdown of basic moves and saucy style.
Learn to Striptease
That's right ladies, let's take it off! In this special class series we will create and develop our very own burlesque personas, then strip them down to their pasties! Students will learn basic struts and shimmies, entrances and exits, "peeling" (strip) technique, pasty twirling, and create their own individual strip routine under the instructor's guidance. Topics will also include musicality, costuming, stage presence, history and so much more. Included in the clas session is a recital for graduates to perform their routines for their friends and fans!
Burlesque-Style Hair, Makeup, and Costume
Learn the tips and tricks to design and apply vintage-style glam stage makeup and hair as well what to wear and how to wear it. In each of the three weeks we will demonstrate pin-up hair style techniques, basic stage and glam makeup in a hands-on demo, as well as a showcase of costumes and costume ideas from the lacy to the feathery to the sparkley! We might even inspire and create a burlesque name or two... This class is great for dancers and non-dancers alike, perfect for pin-up models and vintage enthusiasts.
Performance Prep and Debutante Recital
So you've got down those killer moves, now lets show them off! In the first three weeks of this class we will revue the choreography from the previous burlesque jazz sessions as well as learn the nuances of stage presence, facial expression, and audience interaction. The last class of the session will feature an exciting student recital for YOU to strut your stuff! Performance Prep/Student Recital is open to any students who have completed a recent session of Burlesque Jazz and would like an opportunity to perform for their friends and family!
Please note: to perform at the student recital you must register for Performance Prep. Also, if this is your first performance with the Cupcake Cabaret you MUST also register for Burlesque-Style Hair, Makeup, and Costume at a discounted rate. Returning performers may use their discretion and are NOT required to register for Burlesque-Style Hair, Makeup, and Costume.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear?
Come dressed to move! Wear whatever is comfortable, we recommend a tank top or sports bra and shorts, leggings, or yoga type pants. Barefoot is fine, we prefer to dance in sturdy heels designed specifically for dance but any heel or dance shoe is fine as well. Be as casual or have as much fun as you like!
How do I pay?
Your class instructor will check you in. Payment (cash or check) is due at the beginning of the class. If you paid with paypal, please bring your receipt. If you're paying in cash please bring exact change.
Do I need to register with you?
If you're coming to our classes for the first time show up a few minutes early to sign a waiver and fill out a registration card with your contact information. We use this information to inform you of class cancellations, upcoming events, and other important announcements.
Do I need to sign up for an entire session?
Not at all; Drop-ins are welcome at any time. Please be aware that material builds each week in a month session so dropping in on a class toward the end of the month will include material the other students have already learned and therefore will not be broken down as thoroughly.
Can I come and watch class instead of dropping in?
No. In fairness to our other students and for liability reasons we do not allow people to come and watch class.
Can I bring my child to class?
Unfortunately, no. For the comfort of and consideration to all students, and liability reasons, we do not allow children in class whether they want to participate or just quietly watch.
What is the minimum age for the Burlesque Classes?
Our classes are for students of at least 18 years of age for insurance reasons.
